Artificial intelligence -the transfer of human learning and thinking to computers – can make a significant contribution to making medical and nursing care better and more individualized.
Baden-Württemberg would like to expand its pioneering role in the field of digitization in medicine and care and respond to the call from the European Union by establishing an “AI in healthcare” real laboratory that will serve as a model throughout Germany.
The goal is to promote a single real laboratory that bundles necessary competencies by integrating cooperation partners and can thus perform the following tasks:
For this purpose, the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration Baden-Württemberg provides budget funds of up to 2.35 million euros as part of the package of measures “Zukunftsland BW – Stärker aus der Krise”.
To ensure that the call’s criteria reflected real-world economic and scientific demands, the ministry involved experts from the EIT Health Germany-Switzerland partner network, among others.
Who can apply?
Legal entities are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to projects involving cooperation between several partners. Project applications involving researchers, service providers, one or more manufacturers of medical devices and, if applicable, other stakeholders such as health insurance companies and patient organizations are welcome. Also (federal) state-wide cooperations are possible.
The applicant should be an actor from Baden-Württemberg who can moderate and coordinate the interests of the different stakeholders or cooperation partners neutrally and free of particular interests.
