Networking Europe

Contribution in Forbes Daily “Health & Wealth” by Dr. Katharina Ladewig, Managing Director EIT Health Germany (November 2020)

The coronavirus pandemic illustrates the relevance of healthcare systems for society and the economy and raises the question of European cooperation anew. Although health is still national concern, cooperation knows no bounds, both in the development of vaccines and drugs against COVID-19 and in scaling up start-ups. For EIT, COVID-19 represents a rethink on various levels. EIT Health works at the interface of science and business, brings relevant actors together and builds networks in the EU to strengthen Europe’s innovative power and thus create jobs and prosperity. As a matter of fact, cooperations and projects were put to the test. In order to facilitate networking, a COVID-19 Community Response Platform was launched by EIT Health. In addition, EIT Health partners received short-term financial support (“Rapid Response” project initiative) as well as start-ups (Start-up Rescue Instrument) in the fight against COVID-19. Katharina Ladewig, Managing Director of EIT Health Germany, is convinced of the added value of pan-European networks like EIT Health – especially in times of crisis.
