Innovation Award Bavaria 2020 goes to ADVITOS

The Munich-based medical technology company was selected from 189 nominations by an independent jury and won the main prize.

EIT Health Catapult Finalist Advitos is a proud winner of the main prize at the Innovation Award Bavaria 2020. The company impressed the jury with its patented ADVOS technology (ADVanced Organ Support) – a therapy that provides support in a single device for the three main detoxification organs of liver, lungs and kidneys at the same time. The ADVOS therapy is used in intensive care units at 20 leading hospitals throughout Germany and is on its way to entering the international market.

“The threat from a new virus shows us how much we depend on effective and dynamic innovation, especially when it comes to medicine. With its new technology for combined organ support, ADVITOS GmbH offers completely new possibilities in intensive care that can apparently help us fight COVID-19,” stated Cornelia Rudloff-Schäffer, President of the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA).

Bavaria’s Secretary of Economic Affairs, Roland Weigert, awarded the prize to ADVITOS at the virtual event on November 23, 2020. “In intensive care units, 60% of patients die of multiple organ failure. There is a technology from Upper Bavaria that will save lives here. For the first time in the world, it has been possible to combine multiorgan support of the liver, lungs and kidneys and the direct correction of the blood pH in a single device. This is so outstanding that the ADVITOS is being honored”.

The Bavarian Innovation Prize is awarded for excellent innovations every two years by the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Federation of Bavarian Chambers of Industry and Commerce (Bayerischer Industrie- und Handelskammertag) and the Federation of Bavarian Chambers of Crafts (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der bayerischen Handwerkskammern).
