eHealth 2019 – EIT Health Germany awards the eHealth Prize

On May 24 and 25 2019, the Baden-Württemberg: Connected e.V. (bwcon), Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe GmbH & Co. KG (FWTM), the University of Freiburg and the DIGIHUB Südbaden will host the congress ehealth Europe – Digital Technologies in the Health Sector. EIT Health to award the eHealth Prize to the best participating digital healthcare start-up.

At eHealth Europe, the continuation of the successful eHealth Forum Freiburg, which focuses on research, IT, development, hospitals and start-ups in healthcare, a medical congress at the Freiburg Exhibition Centre will present new developments in the digital world of medicine. For two days, visions, assessments and established digital applications for healthcare will be presented by experts and discussed with the public.

Baden-Württemberg’s Minister for Social Affairs and Integration, Manfred Lucha, will open the event. He will report on the far-reaching digital change and the need for a culture of change to seize opportunities in healthcare. The rector of the University of Freiburg, Prof. Dr. Hans-Jochen Schiewer, sees fundamental changes in research due to the upcoming digital transformation. Prof. Dr. Wenz, who, as Medical Director at the University Hospital of Freiburg, has a strong focus on the field of digitisation, will be welcoming the participants to the continuing medical education course. What is Artificial Intelligence (AI), where is it already in use in medicine? The German Research Centre for AI provides an insight into this field. Dr. Tonio Ball from the University of Freiburg explains the use of CI in neurology and neurosurgery. And how nursing robotics can assist people in need of care in everyday life is shown by Mr. Früh from Switzerland.
Prof. Alscher from the Digital Health BW Association talks about how digitalisation is changing the content and application of guidelines. For example, a telemedical system already in use throughout Europe for monitoring patients with heart diseases will also be presented.

What about digital solutions in medical care? A special highlight of the Friday evening event is the keynote of Peter Albiez, CEO of Pfizer Deutschland GmbH.

Start-ups as technology drivers: In 2019, eHealth Europe will award a prize donated by EIT Health Germany in the field of digitization in healthcare. Ten start-ups will present their ideas to the audience on Friday 24th. The participants then choose the winner from three favourites on Saturday and thus one of the product for tomorrow’s patient care.

The congress will be accompanied by a trade exhibition. Start-ups, IT companies, medical engineers and healthcare institutions will present their products and services. The detailed programme and the possibility to register can be found at:
