New Center for International Health Protection at the Robert Koch Institute
In a new Center for International Health Protection, the Robert Koch Institute bundles and reinforces its expertise in this area. The center started work in Berlin at the beginning of this year.
“RKI employees are involved in many international projects and programs to research and monitor pathogens, curb epidemics, or build laboratory and other infection control capabilities in partner countries,” said Lothar H. Wieler, president of the Robert Koch Institute , The competences built up in this process will be merged, expanded and now permanently available in the new Center for International Health Protection.
Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn explains: “Health crises such as outbreaks of infection are not a problem for individual states in our globally networked world.The new Center for International Health Protection at the Robert Koch Institute will help to identify and ward off global health threats responsible health policy, thereby strengthening health protection in Germany “.
