Research on Artificial Intelligence strengthened at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology
Two new professorships for AI methods in IT security and materials research at KIT.
Artificial intelligence is considered to be a key technology of the future that offers great opportunities for the economy, but also poses threats to data and IT security. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is now strengthening its research and teaching in the AI with two new junior professorships for AI methods in IT security and materials research. The state of Baden-Württemberg is funding the AI research of its universities with six million euros. With this money, a total of ten chairs in the field of methods and applications of AI will be set up nationwide.
The professorships in Karlsruhe will deal with the protection of AI-based systems against hacker attacks and AI methods in materials science. In materials research, for example, KI helps to test ten thousand times more potential candidates for new materials, such as mobile phone displays or batteries, than would be possible with experimental methods.
