E-Science Days – „Data to Knowledge“
This event is in the past
The question of how new knowledge can be generated from digital data will be addressed at the E-Science Days, which will be held at Ruperto Carola from 27 to 29 March 2019 under the heading “Data to Knowledge”.
The four new research data centres – the Science Data Centres, which are being set up with state funding, will also be presented. The Baden-Württemberg Minister of Science, Theresia Bauer, and the heads of the centres will be guests. The E-Science Days with around 200 participants from Germany and abroad are part of the bwFDM-Info II project funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Education and Research and supported by the Universities of Heidelberg and Constance and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). It supports the exchange of knowledge and experience on the topic of research data management and operates the web-based information platform forschungsdaten.info.
The E-Science Days will be officially opened on 28th March. The three-day conference will be hosted by Prof. Dr. Vincent Heuveline, head of the University Computer Centre, and Prof. Dr. Bernhard Eitel, rector of the University of Heidelberg, in addition to the Baden-Württemberg Minister of Science. After 2017, it will take place for the second time. As the organisers emphasise, the organisation, utilisation and archiving of data are becoming increasingly important in the planning and implementation of research projects in all scientific disciplines. From research data management, the event will draw a bow to the question of which services, technologies and infrastructures are required to generate new knowledge from the rapidly growing amounts of data.
