Example for professional education
Caregiving and Ageing Reimagined for Europe (CARE)

With the increasing ageing of the European population, innovative and multi-dimensional solutions are required to meet the ever increasing demand for care for the elderly. Those 85+ are the most rapidly growing of all demographic segments, and are also the most vulnerable to multiple chronic diseases as well as deteriorating conditions of skin, vision, hearing, muscle and bone mass and dental. The need for elder care is very large, even as the supply of elder caregivers is declining.

The current supply gap must be addressed with an increase in the caregiver workforce and it is crucial that these individuals and family caregivers are adequately educated to handle the specific challenges associated with caring for the elderly. The main objectives of CARE (Caregiving and Ageing Reimagined for Europe) are to increase the numbers of new professional caregivers (including and especially amongst the young and unemployed, positioning CARE also as a “job creator”) whilst improving the quality of care delivered (by defining standard protocols and a comprehensive, accessible e-based learning curriculum).

CARE CAMPUS will educate and train caregivers for all settings, including home care and traditional care in institutional settings.

The programme is led by Imperial College Health Partners. The German Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is also partner.
